Background

Communication is key in providing a quality program to the boys.  There are lots of things going on and it is hard to find an easy way to keep everyone up to date.  As a pack, we have chosen to use some different types of communication to make it easier to keep everyone informed.  Most of these take advantage of the computer in some way, shape, or form, so if that does not work for you, let your den leader or cubmaster know.

Google Group

We use a Google Group predominantly for e-mail based communication to the pack.  The nice thing about the Google Group is that each individual manages their own membership to the list.  You can sign up through the google groups web address below.  After a quick approval from the pack leadership, you are on the list.  If in the future you want to remove yourself from the list, their is a button to unsubscribe at the bottom of the form.  This way, you are in control of your membership to the list.

This also provides a limited way to find contact information for other parents.  You can browse through the member lists to get the e-mail addresses for other parents.  It sometimes is a little tough to discern who someone is from their e-mail address so adding your name to your member profile is helpful.  Google does a good job of keeping your contact information away from bulk spammers.

To send messages out to the google group members, you have two options.

1) Send an e-mail to pack262@googlegroups.com from your favorite e-mail program.  This will automatically send the message to all members of the google group.
2) Or post directly to the webform on google group site.  This can be down from a web browser like (Internet Explorer) by logging on to the Google Group and adding a new post under discussions.  This will also send an e-mail out to all members.

Both methods will post your message within the Google Group.

The first time you visit, you will have to provide your name, email address, and a brief message to the leaders including your Den and child’s name.  This will speed the approval process.

The google group also has the ability to post files, and create web pages, but we are going to use the website for most of this.

Our website will be the means for public posting of our information.  Where the google group is meant to deliver information to your inbox, the website will be a repository where you can come to find information.  When you are looking for something come to the website.

We also have a place for announcements.  Since these are not being delivered to someone's e-mail feel free to add information that you think people may find interesting or helpful.  This is open to everyone.  Found a neat field trip, post an announcement on the website.  Have an idea that you want to toss out there, post an announcement.  The last 3 announcements will be placed on the front page, but you can see a listing of all announcements by clicking the announcements link on the left side of the web page.  At the top of the page there is a button for adding a new post.  Feel free to share your info on the website.
